First Supporting Statement
One reason the Thesis statement is true.
The third reason the topic sentence is true.
TS: Camping in the mountains of Arizona always brings my family closer because we have to learn to rely on each other, we have to entertain each other, and we re-connect with family we don't see very often.
TS: Camping in the mountains of Arizona always brings my family closer because...
...we have to rely on each other.
We have to rely on each other.
The tents, which sleep 8 people each, take at least three people to set up, and they need to be set up correctly, or the rain and bears will come in.
We have to rely on each other...the tents need three people to set up...
My wife and I tried to set up our tent alone this year and ended up pulling each other's corners out of the ground, and yelling at each other. My mom, dad, brother and his wife came over and helped us. The tent was up and level in less than 15 minutes. We ended up laughing at how silly we were to have tried to do that without their help.
TS: Camping in the mountains of Arizona always brings my family closer together because...
...we have to entertain each other.
We have to entertain each other.
We leave all of our electronics behind, so with nothing else to do around the campfire every evening, the family talks and gets reacquainted.
We have to entertain each other...leave all of our gadgets and electronics behind.
At our last camping trip, my cousins, who live in Chandler and whom I have not seen since the previous year, were able to come. We talked for hours about our kids, our memories of the last trip we had been on, and our plans for the coming year.
TS: Camping in the mountains of Arizona always brings my family closer because...
...we re-connect with family we don't see very often.
We re-connect with family we don't see very often.
We usually take the time during one of our last campfires of the trip to exchange and update everyone's phone numbers and email addresses, make plans for holidays or reunions, and almost always pose for a family picture.
We re-connect with family we don't see very often.
Last year, we passed around my grandmother's address book and filled in any blanks. Then after Gram got home, she typed up everyone's addresses and sent them out to our emails so we could stay in touch.
End the essay (Conclusion).
In a separate paragraph, remind the readers what you were trying to write about and wrap up the conversation.
Although our family is spread all over the Valley of the Sun, and even all over the state of Arizona, we always feel closer after get together for a camping trip in the Arizona mountains because we learn to rely on each other, we have to entertain each other, and we re-connect with the family .
Without copying and pasting, restate the Thesis:
Transition is needed.
Transition is needed
Transition is
needed
Transitions!
Transition!
Do I really have to say it?
...and then...?
smooth the edges...
transition, of course!
3 parts...recap main points, restate thesis, get "us" out
Transition one last time!
Thesis Statement
Near the end of the introduction--not the first sentence of the essay.
Open a conversation
Not too broad, not too narrow,
not an announcement of the topic or your opinion.
A whole paragraph; opening the topic; focusing your reader's attention
3 parts: Attention getter, background information; thesis statement
Finish this sentence:
"I think that..."
Bonus WOD: Vacation
