Game background:
Let’s say you are in one of the Canadian airline companies, and you are running an airline from Toronto to Vancouver, and there are also 5 more airlines are running same route. The price of this route is $1560, and the profit margins for each company are all 9%. [Profit = all the money you earn – (cost + expenses)]
Now the season is slack season, for earning more profit, your company is thinking about lower price to attract more customers. If your company lowers the price, the profit will increase to 12% because of the good sales.
However, if other companies lower the prices but your company didn’t, the profit of your company will decrease to 7%.
Also if there are four or more than four companies lower their prices, the profits of all companies will decrease to 6%.
Now please make a decision of whether you and your company are going to lower the price or not.

1. Divide the whole class into 6 groups, each groups represent different airlines companies. (Make a name for it. 30 secs)
2. In the first round, every group should make their decision on their own. (Don’t let your opponents know your decision!)
3. In the second round, every group is allowed to send economic spy to other groups. (Information exchange is allowed too.)
4. In the third round, each two groups will be allowed to make an agreement of price uniformity.
5. Which company is the winner?
