Lady Macbeth VS Lady Macduff

The Differences Between The Two Ladies

The Similarities Between The Two Ladies

In the play, lady Macbeth is more evil, aggressive, manipulative, and cruel, in order to persuade her husband murder the king, and ascend the throne, so she would have been perceived to be the evil force and driving Macbeth to commit regicide. Lady Macduff shows herself more naive, kind, and appears to have a good nature, when Ross told her that her husband has fled from Scotland, she exclaimed,” What had he done, to make him fly the land ? “(4.2.1), she is angry for her husband’s fleeing to England, but her strong love for him is also evident, and the good example for that is embodied in act 4 scene 2 when the murderer asked her “ Where is your husband “ she replied “ l hope in no place so unsanctified where such as thou may’st find him “

lady Macbeth does not have any children and even if she has got a child, she will kill him just for her ambition’s sake." I have given suck, and know how tender 'tis to love the babe that milks me: I would, while it was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums, and dashed the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this. "(1.7.55). In contrast, lady Macduff has a number of sons.

The two ladies are married, lady Macbeth is the wife of the thane of Glamis, the than of Cawder and the king after all(Macbeth). The thane of Fife (Macduff) is the husband of lady Macduff, so the two ladies are belong to the same royal class.

Lady Macbeth commits suicide because Macbeth has gone too far in his pursuit of power. She cannot deal with the feel of guilt any more.

Lady Macduff has been left behind by her husband, who has fled to England to find help in his rebellion against Macbeth. Macbeth takes advantage of his absence and sends men to murder Macduff’s servants, wife, and children. Macbeth said “ The castle of Macduff I will surprise “.

Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a classic portrayal of human nature, lady Macbeth and lady Macduff will be the main characters in applying these portrayals.

Thank You For Watching

It is ironic to note that Lady Macbeth’s suicidal guilt was in large part caused by Macbeth’s murder of the king Duncan, Banquo, and Lady Macduff. In Act V, Scene I, as she sleepwalks and tries to clean imaginary blood from her hands, she says: “The thane of Fife had a wife: where is she now?”.

Shakespeare used lady Macduff to be as a foil character in order to shed more light on lady Macbeth.
