Music Contest

Donkey Ears

Midas judges a music contest between Apollo and

Marsyas the satyr. He judges in favor of Marsyas

The River Tells

Apollo was angry because Midas had judged unfairly, and in favor of Marsyas. Therefore, Apollo gave Midas the ears of a donkey.

Unfortunately, the river picked up what the barber said, and shared the secret with the whole country.

Midas' Shameful Secret

Midas was so embarrassed of the donkey ears Apollo had given him, that the only person who knew was his barber.

The Barber Tells

His barber swore he would never tell, but, he had to let it out. So the barber dug a hole near a river and whispered Midas’ secret into the hole.
