The Vietnam War an Woodstock

"For me, Woodstock was a test of whether people of our generation really believed in one another and the world we were struggling to create. How would we do when we were in charge? Could we live as the peaceful community we envisioned? I'd hoped we could."

After the ending of World War II in 1945, President Kennedy's assassination in 1963, and the death of Martin Luther King Junior in 1968, many Americans grew afraid of the Vietnam War sine the media was constantly talking about communism and emphasized the growing strength of the enemy every day.

What was Woodstock?

As the Vietnam War progressed, mions of young adults living in the United States of America organized protests against sending more troops overseas and pleaded for the war to end

Woodstock was not intended to be a specific protest of the Vietnam War but in a way it was since peace and love were greatly promoted and encouraged.

Woodstock was a music festival that was held from August 15-18th, 1969, in the town of Bethel, New York

Difficulties in creating Woodstock

From the very beginning Roberts, Roseman, Kornfield and Lang faced many problems, such as:

The festival displayed the top rock and roll, and progressive musicians of the sixties era, and despite the fact that Woodstock evolved around sex, drugs, and rock and roll it quickly became known as "Three days of Peace and Music."

  • location
  • hiring popular musicians
  • too many people
  • providing basic necessities
  • money
  • weather

Thousands of people from all over the United States attended Woodstock.

Creating Woodstock

Woodstock was a monumental music festival that forever changed America because it brought peace and love to the world, showed the rebellious, young, hippie generation that they could make a difference in their country, and created a movement of change and freedom which helped end the Vietnam war.

In early 1960 four business men teamed up (Roberts, Roseman, Kornfield, and Lang) hopes of making enough money to build a recording studio in Woodstock,New York.

They planned on holding a small festival that would include a rock concert ad an art fair that would attract between 50,000 to 100,000 people.

Hippies at Woodsock

Woodstock

During the 1960's counter-culture movement, the hippies believed that life was about being happy, not about what others thought you should be.

The hippies rejected all middle class values, opposed nuclear weapons, and the Vietnam war.

They wanted to find new meanings of life and create a future for themselves that was a lot brigher than the hate-filled world their parents had created.
