3.What are some personal experiences with Man Vs Self

Movie- Lion King

In The Lion King, Simba has a man vs self conflict when he is debating whether or not he should go back and be the king or stay with Simon and Pumba and live the Hakuna Matata life. Nala was telling Simba to come come back to their kingdom and reign as king because Scar was taking over and ruining everyones life. He kept kept debating if he was gonna go or not. He kept turning around and then turning back. Thus having the Man vs. Man conflict

Modern example 2

Book- Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Aron Ralston was hiking one day when he fell and his hand got stuck between two rocks. I believe that Aron had and inner conflict with man vs self. He had to decide what he was gonna do. If he was going to cut it off or just die. Eventually he decided that he wanted to live. So he decided to cut his arm off. but to get there he had a conflict of man vs self. He wanted to live but he did not really want to cut his arm off. But he did. A part was telling him that he could not do it that he should just die but another part of him was telling him to just do it and get it over with. Yes, Aron Ralston was a very courageous man in order to cut his own arm off but it was a battle to get there, both internal and external.

Huckleberry Finn Example 3

What is Twain's message?

Huckleberry Finn Example 2

I was a trembling, because I'd got to decide, forever, betwixt two things, and I knowed it. I studied a minute, sort of holding my breath, and then says to myself: "All right, then, I'll GO to hell!" (p. 194)

“I felt good and all washed clean of sin for the first time I had ever felt in my life, and I knew I could pray now” (p.213)

Huck knows that helping Jim is wrong, but he ultimately decides its what he should do. This is an example of Man vs. Self because he has the inner conflict of deciding whether he should help save Jim or not.

I think Twain is trying to say that life is a struggle and sometimes you are going to have to make choices that may not seem the right choice at the time but in the end it is or it may not. There will be times in life that you will have to make a choice that seems impossible to make.

Modern example 1

Here Huck writes a letter to Mrs. Watson telling her that he has Jim and that he was helping him escape. After he wrote the letter he felt relieved but he didn't fell happy doing it so he decided not to send it but he felt as though he was doing the what was wrong since he was told that helping a slave escape was not right.

Movie- Tangled

In the movie Tangled Rapunzel experiences man vs. self throughout the movie. She can not decide if she wants to stay in the tower or defy her “mother's” wishes and leave the tower. When she finally decides to leave she is very hesitant and does not know if what her “mother” has told her is true or not. She goes back and forth with herself wondering what will happen if she continues.

Huckleberry Finn Example 1

“It was fifteen minutes before I could work myself up to go and humble myself to a nigger; but I done it, and I warn’t ever sorry for it afterward, neither. I didn’t do him no more mean tricks, and I wouldn’t done that one if I’d ‘a’ knowed it would make him feel that way” (p.86).
