Sui Dynasty

Rise

  • The first ruler was Yang Jian
  • He united north and south China after almost 400 years of civil war.

Rise

  • Yang Jian Issued a new law code
  • He made the capitol Chang'an.(Xi'an)

Decline

  • Sui Yangdi retreated to the south and got assassinated in 618 A.D.
  • The Sui dynasty ended and the Tang dynasty started that year
  • He promoted Buddhism
  • He died in 604 A.D. possibly murdered by his son Sui Yangdi, who became the next ruler.

  • Sui Yangdi built the first Grand Canal
  • It was used for shipping grain and other materials and it extended for almost 1,200 miles.
