DNA: The Colin Pitchfork Case

How it was used...

  • Using forensic science techniques available at the time, police linked a semen sample taken from her body to a person with type A blood and an enzyme profile that matched only 10 percent of males. With no other leads or evidence, the case was left open.
  • The modus operandi ( a distinct pattern or method of operation that indicates or suggests the work of a single criminal in more than one crime) matched that of the first attack, and semen samples revealed the same blood type.

Suspects

The only suspect that matched the DNA to both cases was Colin Pitchfork.
