Theme of the sonnet and the song
No one can live forever but their love will never die. and nothing can bring their love down they will keep living for each other.
Edmund Spenser writes his girlfriends name in the sand. The waves/tide wash it away which upsets him. She says that his gesture will not work. He wants to make her name immortal, but she says it will decay like all other things . He states his poetry will make her name live on in the heavens or "immortalize it". Death will kill everything, but his love for her will live forever
