The Mi'kmaq had seven districts and a grand council. Each district had many leaders called Saqamaws. Which were chosen and advised by the council of elders. The council of elders was made up of family heads or representatives. Each district council chose a Saqamaws to represent on the grand council. The seven districts also met once a year.
The Haudenosaunee had five then eventually six different nations. They each spoke different languages, lived at different places and had there own clans and local councils. But they all accepted the great law of peace. The grand council, which was made up of 50 different chiefs called Hoyenah, would make decisions for the confederacy. They also had clan mothers who chose the Hoyenah.They are also how they traced there roots.
The Anisinabe had different Dodems-which means clans-which each had different roles. They had the crane and loon clans which would be the leaders. Fish who taught the young. The bear clan would police the camps. They had the hoof clan to meet community needs. They had a marten clan who would defend the villages. And lastly there was a bird clan who looked after spiritual needs. There was also was the midewin society. They were spiritual leaders and healers.
The Anishinabe believed in a visible material world and a invisible spiritual world. All things are connected to the creator, and everything that is present.
The Haudenosaunee believed in a peacemaker named Dekanawidah who brought the people the great law of peace. They believed in consensus and they valued women. They believed in mother earth.
The Mi`kmaq moved from place to place from season to season. They did not change the land to suit there needs. The men and women had different roles.
The Anishinabe gathered wild rice, they would fish at the near lakes, and would hunt at the forests.
The Haudenosaunee farmed the land for various crops.
The Mi`kmaq used the land differently from season to season. They would fish in the summer and hunt in the winter.
Anisinabe: They lived in wigwams at Ontario.
Haudenosaunee: They lived in the New York area and in longhouses
Mi`kmaq: They lived on the eat coast of Canada in wigwams.
Mi`Kmaq:
Their role was to gather crops, preserve meat and clean the camps. They were also life givers which would heal the wounded.
Anishinabe:
The were the powerhouse of house. They always worked hard at everything
Haudenosaunee:
Their role was to manage the government and choose the leaders of the five clans
