- Professional theatre in Spain began around 1550 led by Lope de Rueda
- Theatre popularity was on the rise in the 1570s
- By 1700, 30,000 plays were written
- A man who is often referred to as the founder of Spanish drama is Juan del Encina
- The costumes during the Spanish Golden Age were basically as fancy and expensive as their profit allowed them to be.
- The genres they focused on were Religious Drama, Public Theatre and Theatre at court.
- A famous actor in that time was: Pedro Calderón de la Barca.
- In Spain in 1508 they were really into classical drama,
- They founded a University which studies Greek, Latin and Hebrew ( Classical theatre).
- But many of their work was translated.
- A bit later around that time period Lope de Reude was made.
- It is often called the father of professional Spanish theatre, but it was most probably just the most successful.
- In that time there were not any permanent theatres.
