BEETLEJUICE ONLY HAD 1 MILLION DOLLARS FOR VISUAL EFFECTS
After the movie an animated
series, also named Beetlejuice, was
made. Tim Burton was the
executive producer, and It ran for four
seasons on ABC from September
9th, 1989 to December 6th, 1991.
Michal McDowell's version of Beetlejuice was very violent and not comedic at all. The Maitlands' car crash was very graphic, with Barbra's arm being crushed and the audience could hear the screams as they slowly drown. In the revised script it is very comedic and only a little violent, Barbra referred her arm as being cold because her arm was crushed, is an example of how the script was toned down. They return home only to figure out they are ghosts, due to the carelessness of a little dog. Also instead of possessing the Deetzes to dance at dinner, as in the movie, the Maitlands cause a vine-pattern carpet to come to life and attack the Deetzes by tangling them in their chairs. Instead of Betelgeuse being small man he was a winged demon, his intent to kill the Deetzes instead of scaring them, and wants to do other things Lydia instead of marry her. After Warren Shaaren rewrote it, the script shifted its tone dramatically, including the death of the Maitlands' not as graphic and depicting the after life as a complex bureaucracy.
The are many shorter and/or instrumental songs that are on the soundtrack that go along with the scenes. There are two main songs though, Jump in the Line (Featured at the end when Lydia gets an A on her math test), and Day-O (featured when the Maitlands' try to scare away the Deetzes by possessing them. It charted at number 145 on the the Billboard 200 albums chart and two weeks later was at 118, spending 6 weeks on the chart.

In 1990 Tim Burton had hired someone to write a sequel called Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian. The story was, the Deetes family is moving to Hawaii, where Charles is developing a resort, but they soon figure out the resort is built on an ancient burial ground. The Hawaiian spirit comes back from the afterlife to cause trouble. But then Betelgeuse comes to the rescue by winning a surf contest with magic. Some of the main cast agree to do the sequel but then Burton gets to busy with the movie Batman Returns. 7 years later Burton wants to produce it but the cast is now too old for the roles and they would have to completely recast.
Adam Maitland suggests going to Jamaica for their honeymoon, but they died before they could go.
The Maitlands' die because of a dog. The dog jumps of the plank that is holding that Maitlands up, and the car lands in the river below.
Beetlejuice is a "bio-exersist" which means to get rid of the living, not the dead.
How did the dumb football players die?
A plane crash, but the coach did survive.
