Popular soverngenity means all poltical power resides in the people, they are soverign, meaning the are the in source for gov power.

Example:

1)electing a president

2)senates being elected

Federalism:

Limited goverment:

Judical review:

Seperation of powers:

the divison of power among a central goverment and several regional goverments.

Example:

1)laws passed by state.

2)taxes passed by a state

Limited gov is where the goverment is only able to do what the people give it power to do.

Example:

1)Freedom of speach/religion

2)president can only serve 2 terms

this is where the goverment is distributed into three distinct and independent branches of goverment.

Example:

1)President signs a bill passed by congress

2)president sends troops to war

is the power of the courts to check wether what the goverment does is in accord with what the constitution provides

Example:

1)courts investigating to see if congress is fullfilling the constitution

Checks and balances:

This means each branch of gov is subject to a number of constitutional restraints.

Example:

1)president vetos a law proposed by congress

2)congress agrees with presidents choice for senate.
