SIX STEPS OF THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS

Step 6: Evaluate the encounter and revise the message

Find out if the goal was met. If no, why not? What other options are available? What should the next step be.

Step 5: offer feedback and seek clarification

Step 4: listen to the response

Rephrase what is heard or ask questions to check your understanding of the response

Employ listening and observational techniques to determine whether the message was received as intended.

Step 3: Deliver the message

Choose the delivery method best suited for making sure the receiver will understand the intent of the message.

Step 2: Create the message

Choose and organize appropriate content based on the communication goals.

Step 1: sET COMMUNICATION GOALS

Figure out what needs to be accomplished. This is done by considering patient needs, current circumstances, and the duties assigned to the health care professional.

Communication is the key to everything. Sending and receiving messages and making sure they are interpreted correctly helps in getting tasks and duties done for patients. Communicating procedures, paperwork, and medication could facilitate a speedy recovery for a patient. Without communication, health care professionals would have a hard time with tasks, and we would not be able to properly assist patients.
