This commandment is very important to me, because our parents deserve lots of respect for everything they have done for us. I come from a very loving and caring family, that will always be for me no matter what. However, there have been many times where i didn't treat my parents with the proper respect they deserve. Sometimes I don't obey their rules or decisions, even though they are making them for my benefit. Lately, I have been trying to have more respect for my parents, and apologizing for the mistakes I have made with them.
There has been many times in my life where I have lied to get out of doing something I don't want to do, or to cover something up. This commandment is very hard not to break, because there have been many temptations to lie about something. Some lies could be worse than others, but in the end, lying is never a good solution. I am starting to learn how to be a very truthful person, because i now realize it is not fair for anyone to be lied to, and I am disobeying God's rules.
In the past, I used to go to church every Sunday. I used to feel quite close to God, and I used to always like going to church. Lately, however, my family has gotten quite busy, and we haven't been able to find time to go to church an hour a week. This makes me feel very guilty, God has done so much for me, the least I can do is go to church once a week and pray with God. I will try to find time to attend church once a week now, and feel as close to God as I did before.
This commandment could be broken many times, without anyone knowing. This commandment is stating that you shall not want something someone else has. In other words, you shall not get jealous. Many people including myself, always pay attention to the things they want, and not the things they already have, which they are taking for granted. Lots of people have a loving family, a home, clean water and food, but are paying attention to all the new things they want, which they don't need. Meanwhile somewhere else in the world, there are people who would do anything to have clean water, or shelter. I have learned to become more grateful for what I have, instead of what I want.
1. You shall not have any other Gods before me.
2. You shall not make unto thee any graven image
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. You shall honor thy Father and thy Mother
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not lie
10. You shall not covet
The Ten commandments appear in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible and also in Jewish scriptures. Jewish people call them the 'Ten Sayings'. The Ten Commandments are the fundamental laws of the Jews which tell the Jewish people how they should live. Many countries base their laws on these rules too.
I have disobeyed this commandment in my life several times, and I'm not proud of it. Whenever I get frustrated or angry, I often catch myself saying God's name in vain. At first, I didn't see much wrong with it, because my friends would say it as well. One day I said the Lords name in vain in front of my mom. She then told me why it was disrespectful to God, and I realized then that I had been very ignorant for saying it so often, and I now realize what I had done wrong, and I try my best to be more considerate and respectful towards God.
