Lesson on the book

One of the messages is that you should value the people for who they are. Most of the time people judge others by the way they look, and the ones who judge don’t take the time to know them. You should dedicate people the time to know them. In Bruiser, Bronte took the time to know Brew and they fell in love. You never know if you are going to like the person, but you should try to get along. If at the end you don’t like the person, you at least know you tried. Many authors don’t have a name for all of the chapters. Neal Shusterman made a very good job naming each of the 66 chapters with one word. That one word, explained what the chapter was about. You can read each chapter, then read the name of the chapter again, and notice how the word really explains the meaning of the chapter. In addition, I also like that the book had a lot of dialog; it made the book more interesting.

Coming Of Age

This novel is about coming of age because all of the characters learn many things about eachother. As they spend time together they become more mature and understanding of eachother's feelings. Even through all of the bad times they had in their lives they still stuck on to love and had eachother.

“It's strange how we always want other people to feel what we feel. It must be a basic human drive. Misery loves company, right? Or when you see a movie that you love, don't you want to drag all your friends to see it as well? Because it's only good the second time if it's the first time for somebody else—as if their experience somehow resonates inside of you.”

"Cant do it myself; math isn't my subject." (Shusterman 143)

I choose this quote because I relate to this quote and I feel everyone else can relate to this qoute aswell, in different ways. Brew has Misery that later comes with love.

I relate to Brew (Bruiser) because I'm not too good at math myself. I need little hints and help from someone to fully understand.

Summarize

Quotation of the book

"Guard your heart, but don't lock it away."

I choose this theme because

it sums up the book perfectly, and Brusiers life aswell. Brew heals people he likes. Be careful who you like. Don't lock it away means that you can be careful, but don't lock it away so you hate everyone. I also choose blue for the theme because Bruiser always seems to be blue.

Bruiser is a teenage boy who is a unsociable person but later becomes a hero. Sixteen-year-old Tennyson fumes when he learns his twin sister, Bronte, is dating Bruiser, the guy voted Most Likely to Go to Jail, but Bronte insists Bruiser is misunderstood. Tennyson does some spying on Bruiser and sees who he really is. Bronte and Brusier start to hangout more and more and she learns many remarkable and emotional things about him and his family. Bruiser learns about Bronte"s family likewise. Bronte and Tennyson give Brewster the friendship and love that he craves, but as he gets involved with the siblings and their uneasy family life, he is forced to take on more pain than he can possibly handle. And they soon find out about his special gift/curse.

Three lessons

Know one's place

-Dont judge someone unless you have been in thier shoes, when Tennyson spys on Brew she judges him quickly. It will help you have a health mind if your not quick to judge..

Fail early and often; Time is your best asset

-When you are young, your greatest asset is not your talent, not your ideas, not your experience, but your time. Time grants you the opportunity to take big risks and make mistakes.

Follow your gut, you’ll thank yourself later

-If you follow your gut and try hard at what you want, there's little to no downside and huge, major upsides to good.

Quotes

"The movie-date must have been invented by a guy: no possible way to have a conversation in a darkened room suitable for other activities." (Shusterman 60)

I agree with this quote. When Brew asked Bronte to go to the movie with him, Tennyson thought of this. The way she thinks is cute. I thought this quote was amusing. It made me laugh!

Three major conflicts in your novel

Person vs. Self

Bruiser is at war with himself because of the cruse. He can't control this ability, he just takes away the hurts of his friends and family, whenever he is close to them, and experiences it, regardless of if he wants it or not.

Person vs. Person

Tennyson and Bronte's parents start fighing all the time. The father finds out that his wife has been cheating on him with another man. They end up getting a divorce.

Person vs.Society

Brews cruse defines who he is to society, sadly. This means Brew must hate people to live, so he is misunderstood as a shady, depressed boy that hates the world. Brew lives at home with his younger brother Cody, and his abusive alcoholic uncle.
