One night she disrespected Madam and she got looked away in the the potato cellar. She used all of her strength and fought her way out. Once she escaped, she looked in the mirror for the first time since she had been branded.
Isabel's Discovery
When Isabel looked into the mirror that one night, she finally realized who she was. She finally accepts who she is, and it gave her a lot of strength and courage to move on and escape at the end of the book.
Freedom at last
That night after she had escaped the patato cellar, she looked into the mirror and identified herself. She packed up her things, left New York, and set herself free.
