Purpose - Most teachers go into education for idealistic reasons but then stop talking about their ideals. “Teachers need to bring that sense of purpose to the surface,” says Pink. “They should talk more about why they went into teaching , why it matters, why they’re making this contribution to the world. This idea of purpose as motivator is not a touchy-feely sentiment. A pile of evidence during the last 10 years shows it can be a real performance enhancer.”

Effective Classroom Management: CHAMPS

Safe and Civil Schools Overview

As a group - come up with 2 things you notice and 1 thing you wonder.

Reduce barriers to learning . . . increase motivation to achieve.

The key to this approach is the interventions we use for all of our students.

Behavior is like a puzzle and we have some variables that we can manipulate to help improve behavior and motivation.

The approach developed by Safe and Civil School is titled "STOIC".

Observe

Correct

Structure

Observe student behavior.

Structure/organize all school settingsfor success.

Correct irresponsible behavior calmly, consistently and immediately in the setting in which the infraction occured.

  • We will be: Sharing with partners, boisterously answering and reflectively responding in whole and small groups.
  • If you need to step out, please feel free to do so. If you need clarification, please feel free to "hoist a paw".
  • There will be listening, movement, play, watching, Teaming and sharing of knowledge or reflections.
  • We will be moving throughout library, sitting with chosen peers and switching into prearranged groups.
  • Full, active, engaged, fun participation is expected.
