Monday November 16th, G Day

To do: Pick up only "The Eggsperiment"

Packet from in front of your class bin.

HW: Page 1 and 2 of the Plasma

Membrane Packet

Learning Target:

Students will identify various

parts of the organelle:

the cell membrane

EQ: Why does life have and inside and an outside?

3 parts of the cell membrane...

1) Lipid Bilayer

- 2 layers of phospholipids

- water proof

- tough layer allowing only

specific particles in and out

2) Protein

- channels that allow larger or

charged molecules (ions) in and out

3) Carbohydrate

- receptors that decide what molecules come in and out

- they branch off of either a hydrophilic head or a protein

1st Block

- go over HW

- lab day 2

- color the plasma membrane

2nd Block

- Transport

- Osmosis

CELL MEMBRANE

"The Gatekeeper"

Cell Membrane

- outer layer enclosing the cell

- also known as the plasma membrane

Where is it found?

- in plant and animal cells

- separates the inside of the cell from the outside

There are...

TWO TYPES OF TRANSPORT ACROSS THE CELL MEMBRANE

The cell membrane is

selectively permeable...

Draw cells

on the whiteboard!
