Vocabulary Mini-Lessons

The following presentation will outline and analyze morphemic and contextual vocabulary mini-lessons. The presentation will also outline how the various State standards from each author apply to each lesson. Assessments for each lesson are analyzed in regards to the mini-lessons. Worksheet examples for each lesson are provided.

Nebraska

LA 3.1.6 - Comprehension: Students will construct meaning by applying prior knowledge, using text information, and monitoring comprehension while reading increasingly complex grade-level literary and informational text.

Indiana

3.RV.2.1: Apply context clues (e.g., word, phrase, and sentence clues) and text features (e.g., maps, illustrations, charts) to determine the meanings of unknown words.

Vocabulary Acquisition and Use: Students will be able to know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. a. Identify and know the meaning of the most common prefixes and derivational suffixes. b. Decode words with common Latin suffixes. c. Decode multi-syllable words. d.
