Guru Granth in Parade Float
Activities at the Harimandir on Divali
- Musicians perform traditional songs
- A float decorated with flowers carries the Guru Granth (living guru) in a parade through the village
- People going to watch the parade cover their heads and remove their shoes to show homage to the holy book
- Sikhs recite various scripture and hymns
- People gather in gurdwaras (place of worship) to listen to Sikh scholars deliver lectures and readings by the Guru Granth
- Bhog ceremonies take place where worshippers say prayers and receive karahprasad (sacred pudding)
- Langar (community meal) is served
- People enjoy exhibits of Sikh treasures at shrines such as the Golden Temple
