Polar bears

23Churchhill is on of the rare human cities in the world where you can view polar bears in the wild.

27over a thousad polar bears arrive at Churchill each fall.

24The best times to view a polar bear at Churchill is during October through November when polar bears begin to migrate back to the tundra, however you can see them all year round.

1The soils in the Hudson plains are mostly frozen.

2This frozen soil referred to as “permafrost soil” which makes it difficult to sustain life because of its lack of nutrition.

3The harsh soils make the land mostly void of plant life with only the hardiest plants surviving.

28Churchill has a total area of 53.96 km²

7The Hudson plain is formed from sedimentary rock on top of the Canadian Shield.

8The Hudson plains was formed due to the wearing and tearing of the Canadian shield, to the point where it was able to let waterways run over it.

9The passing of the waterways led to sediments being deposited as the water passed over.

10The sediments were later compressed to form the land of the Hudson plains.

11However there were still water left on top of the Hudson plains which wore into the land creating water banks that dot the area today.
