Ancient China

Modern China

Similarities

Major Similarities and Differences

To sum it all up, ancient China and modern China have their differences, especially in their populations, architectural styles, and clothing. Their population sky-rocketed since even 100 B.C., and not because it's been a long time since then. At 500 B.C., China's population was at 27 million, but now, they are at a whopping 1.3 billion people! There population has always been up, and they are actually currently the country with the highest population! Their architectural design has also significantly changed since then. Back in the B.C.'s, their houses used to be very generic and simple, uncompleted even, but they've become very modernized, and they now have some of the best technology in the world! They used to only have these simple one-roomed homes, a few fancy temples, and some more advanced houses for the rich, but those have improved greatly. Now, China still has some houses out there, but in some cities, they have huge towers, fancy hotels, and they're all very sturdy buildings. Now, with their clothing, They used to only wear rags, robes, tunics, and pants, but modern China has clothes very similar to ours, but with their own touch to it. Most people wear the usual T-Shirt and jeans, sometimes a suit, but they also have their fair share of designer clothes. Ancient China and modern China definitely have their differences, but some things haven't changed a lot since then. For example, there are still millions of people that are very religious. They usually would have their own miniature shrine to them, and there are many things the Chinese in the past and now have/are done/doing. My family is very religious themselves, so I know some of the things they do to respect their god(s). For example, the Chinese believe that for you to make a sacrifice, you would have to burn them or place candles around it, similar to the Sumerians. China's architectural design has also improved since they started it, but still has it's aspects that haven't changed. They have always built their gardens carefully, and they strive to make it beautiful and organized. Finally, their handwriting hasn't changed much. In Mandarin, the common Chinese language, most of the characters have stayed the same from when they first created it in the 14th century. There have been modifications, but most characters have stayed the same for the most part. To conclude, many things have changed and improved since the B.C.'s, but many things have also stayed the same.

  • China currently has a population of 1.3 billion
  • In 500 B.C., China had a population of 27 million
  • China is a communist country (the whole country is controlled by one government)
  • China has always been using logograms, which are characters that represent a meaning or word. They consist of a series of strokes or lines withing an imaginary box
  • The Zhou Society was mostly made of peasant, but there was also 1 king, many lords to help control different pieces of land, and warriors to help protect the land
  • Many people started to believe in Buddhism around 200 B.C., and many people still believe in it today
  • The buildings were made out of many different materials, such as brickwork, timber, and bamboo
  • The houses of the peasants were partly underground and had straw roofs
  • Many people in a past and now value jade and bronze, for they are very useful and/or decorative
  • Most people live in apartments, some in fancy houses and/or towers, but a lot of people are also homeless
  • The peasant's houses usually had one room and a dirt floor, while the richer people had much fancier houses, containing things such as jade, marble, and modern architecture styles
  • Gardens were and always have been built delicately and beautifully
  • Millions of people today are still very religious, and do many things to worship their god(s)
  • Modern Chinese fashion is similar to American clothing. They wear things like suits, casual T-Shirts, jean, etc., including things like designer clothes made of threads, like silk.
  • Everyone almost always wears a robe or tunic, even in the winter. They would just put on a padded jacket over it!
