What do you mean "changes in circumstance"?
STATIC CHARACTER - no personality change even after a change in circumstance/life change
For example...If we had a kind and humble man who found out that he had inherited a lot of money and still remained kind and humble and went about his life in relatively the same way...
If we had that same kind and humble man who inherited a lot of money and suddenly became greedy and angry...
DYNAMIC CHARACTER - personality change after a change in circumstance/life change
Static vs Dynamic Characters
Static vs Dynamic
For example...
Round and Dynamic Characters
Flat vs Round
Flat Characters: Lord Voldemort, Cinderella's evil step-sisters, Miss Page in "The Glass Castle".
Now, list two characters who have strong/complex personalities (as a round character would) and have undergone significant changes in circumstance, AND HAVE changed on the inside (as a dynamic character would):
Over all, in "The Glass Castle", we have more round characters, or, characters with a personality, who are either static or dynamic.
Both static and dynamic characters may find their circumstances change, but only dynamic characters will have a change within themselves.
The concept of flat vs round characters is less complex than static vs dynamic. Round characters have an interesting personality and diverse interests. Flat characters are 2 dimensional.
Definition: Dynamic characters are characters who undergo a change within themselves over the course of the story.
List two characters who have strong/complex personalities (as a round character would) and undergone significant changes in circumstance, but HAVE NOT changed on the inside (as a static character would):
1.
2.
