Plastic vs. Feather
Plastic Vanes
When doing the experiment we couldn't find a definite answer to our questions. Human error played a major factor in this project.
- Heavier
- More durable for target shooting
- More versatile
- Although we could not see which one was more accurate... We could tell the difference in flight.
- We noticed that the arrows with feathers did not wobble as much and flew straighter
- The feathered arrows also hit the target straight
- The plastic vanes hit the target at an angle
Feathers....
- Greater Stability
- Weigh less -- flatter trajectory
- More forgiving flight
What did we do?
Are Feather Fletchings or Plastic Vanes more accurate?
How are feathers and plastic vanes different?
- The Fletchings are the fins on the back of an arrow.
- You can change the material of the fletchings to affect how the arrow flies
We shot arrows at targets multiple times
How?
- We started off by designating a spot on the target to shoot
- then we would shoot with the different fetchings
- Then see which arrows were farther from the dot.
