why does a blob fish look the way it does?

By : Moira Sanford

the blob fish is a type of fish that lives in the sea . the blob fish lives just off the coast of Australia and Tasmania . This fish lives between 2,000 and 4,000 ft down , this depth is enough to flatten you.

A blob fish looks the way it does because , it's skin needs to be jelly like so they don't get flattened from such intense pressures . With the blob fish living on the ocean floor it's a lot of pressure . like i said at the beginning there's enough pressure to flatten us .

When a blob fish is out of water it looks like a huge blob of jello but , when they're in water since there is so much pressure it squishes them a bit and they actually look like a normal fish . this fish looks different when you take it out of extreme water depths because it become decompressed (relieve or reduce pressure) like I said at the beginning they live a depth enough to flatten us , and this is why they look so different underwater than they do above water

What is the life cycle of a blob fish?

how does a blob fish swim around if they don't have muscles?

Blob fish have very little muscles so , it takes very little energy around since their gelatin-like mass gives them a density lower than the water at such a deep pressure .

fun facts :

-did you know a blob fish has very little muscles in their body , soft bones and they don't have teeth . instead of swimming a blob fish will usually just float around .

-a blob fish on average live about up to 130 years

-blob fish are becoming endangered

-the blob fish doesn't have very many predators because the blob fish's skin is acid like which makes them poisonous

a blob fish will eat things like :

-crabs

- lobsters

- sea urchins

and pretty much anything that crawls past them or they can find

the invertebrate blob will soon hatch from the eggs when ready . this is the second part of their life cycle . after the invertebrate blob fish hatch they just grow into a larger invertebrate blob fish

shortly after when the blob fish is ready , the blob fish will go on its own to start catching its own food.

she will stay with her eggs because she needs to clean the eggs daily to protect them from things like , dirt or any other harmful things

the female blob fish will stay with all of her eggs until they hatch!

a female blob fish first lays thousands of eggs ,

the start of their life cycle

here's what trawling would look like

you're probably wondering how the blob fish are becoming extinct when they don't have many predators

blob fish don't have many predators but , they are becoming extinct because of this thing called trawling . Trawling is a method of fishing that involves actively dragging or pulling a trawl through the water behind one or more trawlers . basically there are boats dragging a net along the oceans floor catching hundreds of fish at once . research says if the blob fish wasn't inedible they would be extinct
