Setting
The story takes place in a middle school in the winter. We can tell that the middle school isn't the safest place because the schools principle isn't getting involved with the problems in the school. The tone the story gives is a scary and frightening effect because bullying is scary and the reader wouldn't want an intimidating gang in their school. Most of the action in the story takes place near lockers and in a cafeteria.
The Kobra's
The Kobra's are a gang in the school who are selfish, very full of them selves, disrespectful and who are followers not leaders, this is shown in the quote,
"Kobras did nothing all day but walk half a step behind Monk." We think they are this way because they most likely don't like themselves so in order to make themselves feel better they treat others badly. The gang is the antagonist in the story because they are the obstacle. The gang leaves an aggressive and scary effect on the reader because they are so rude to others and you wouldn't want those people in your school. The reader also feels happy at the end because the leader of the gang gets a taste of his own medicine and gets stood up to by Priscilla. This shows indirect characterization
Melvin
Melvin is a static character because throughout the whole story he is a small and wimpy kid, shown in the quote " Melvin's one of the smallest guys above midget status ever seen.". This is direct characterization. Melvin gives a sad effect on the reader because when he is being beaten up people feel really bad for him.
Priscilla is a Dynamic character because at the beginning you think that she is going to be a shy character but she turns out to be a tough and outgoing person, this is shown when she stands up to the bullies. She gives a powerful effect on the reader because when she stands up to the bully it makes the reader feel happy and strong. This is indirect characterization.

Point of View
The story is written in first person point of view because, they use words like I, us, me, etc. to describe what the characters are doing during the story. The boy telling the story was also picked on by the Kobra's. This might give a sad effect on the reader because the innocent young boy is getting picked on by a group of boys who are a lot bigger and stronger then him.
The conflict in this short story is based on the struggles teenagers face in middle school and how they deal with bullies. The conflict starts when "The Kobra's" take over the middle school. The gang treats kids with disrespect. When Priscillas bestfriend, Melvin gets picked on by the gang, she takes a stand for herself and her friend. The main conflict starts when the Kobras grab Melvin and slam him up against a locker. The conflict rises when Priscilla karate chops the Kobra's arm to make him lose his grip on Melvin. The type of conflict that is presented in the story is person vs person.
