History

  • The toilet was invented in 1853 by Joseph Adamson, NOT Thomas Crapper (contrary to urban legend)
  • Used pressure and gravity to flush
  • Used about 7 gallons of water
  • In 1992 President George H. W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act, which states hat toilets cannot consume more than 1.6 gallons per flush.
