CNS Effects
Methamphetamine affects the brain by increasing the amount of dopamine that is released. Dopamine is a chemical in the brain that allows you to feel pleasure and pain. Meth is able to release dopamine rapidly across regions of the brain that cause euphoria and this causes the intense high that users receive after doing meth. Although, meth disrupts the regulation of your emotions and the ability to experience natural pleasure without the use of this drug.
History
A small time after amphetamine was found, meth was found from ephedrine in 1893. The name was taken from its elements, methyl alpha-methyl phenyl ethyl amine. Methamphetamine was synthesized in 1919 by a man named Akira Ogata. Meth was being used in World War II by Axis and Allied forces. More than 35 million 3-milligram doses were made in Germany between April and July of 1942. It was also given to pilots to reduce fatigue and enhance their focus during long flights.
