The Antarctic fur grass does not like the lowland of Antarctic as the weather conditions are extremely harsh. Instead it prefers secluded areas next to mosses and inside crevices. Though its favourite soil is soil where a plant has just died and they can get nutrients from dead roots. It inhabits mostly north antarctica but ocasiny you will find it on some subantarctic islands
the antarctic hair grass in length is from 3 to 5m
あAntarctic Hair grass is a flowering plant. meaning that it life cycle into flower and drop seed and then die.
The antarctic hair grass can take some abuse. Not only will it have to survive the cold winds but it will also have to survive another threat, elephant seals and penguins. The penguins and the seals don’t actually eat the hair grass but they trample them. This is another reason why the hair grass prefers secluded areas as it is less likely to be trampled on. But if they do they should be fine as they are extremely tough. This means that the hair grass has to survive being stood on by 4 tonne seals and the cold nights of -57 degrees Celsius. they also freeze so that there are small not large crystals. meaning that it does not destroy cells.
