The Note
The note is important because its from the builders. It is instructions to get to the door and out of the city. Poppy accidentally chewed up the note, but there were still a few words. They finally uncovered what the note said and they found the door. It said:

The Key
This item is important because it opens the door. Every key opens something but not every key looks the same. This key was in a panel in the wall. The colour was silver and it was hanging on a hook. It helped open the door that has candles and matches in it.
Job Bag
This item has importance because every year the mayor would bring the bag to the school so that the 12 year old kids could pick their jobs. They would have these jobs until they retired. It was a stressful time due to the anticipation about what type of job they would get. It was also a happy time when they got the jobs that they desired. Lina and Doon wanted each other's jobs so they switched.
Can of Peaches
This item has importance because the can of peaches resembles the supply depot. The can of peaches also resembles how everyone thought that all the special foods such as peaches, pineapple and corn were extinct. But they were not. Lina tried peaches. She felt like she was in heaven. They were sweet, soft and delicious.
