Hamlet Soundtrack

We are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together- Taylor Swift

Mean- Taylor Swift

In Act 1, Ophelia describes Hamlet's actions when he arrived in her room. She told him that she did not care to talk to him or continue a relationship with him. In the song she says,"We hadn't seen each other in a month, when you said you needed space." He left for a long time and then expected Ophelia to be the same person. He approached her in a way that showed her that he has gone mad.

Ophelia felt insulted by Hamlet. Similar to the song, “like knives and swords and the weapons that he used against her [me],” she was very hurt by his words and actions. In Act III Scene 1, Hamlet accused her of being two faced and not being her true self. This is a result of her lying to him about her father's whereabouts.

10. You’ve Got a Friend In Me- Randy Newman

In Act 1, King Hamlet is dead and Hamlet comes back home. Gertrude, Hamlet's mother gets remarried to King Hamlet's brother, Claudius. "I know my kingdom awaits " as the song says, is what Hamlet thought he'd be coming back to in the state of Denmark but he learns that Claudius is now the king and had married his mother incestuously.

In the beginning, Hamlet was coming coming back to redeem his rightful throne. After Act 1 Scene 2 , things changed, Hamlet was not there to become king, he was there to exact revenge. After being visited by the ghost of King Hamlet, Hamlet wanted more than just his crown because his uncle needed to pay for what he did. Hamlet wants to wait until the right moment "I dont want your money, I dont want your crown .. see I've come to burn 'your' kingdom down" relates to how Hamlet is now fixated on getting revenge on Claudius. In Act 2, Scene 4 after right before Polonius is killed behind the curtain while spying, is the perfect place to put this song.

You’ve Got a Friend In Me- Randy Newman

In Act III, scene ii, Hamlet was very excited to see his good friend Horatio. The lyrics say, "You just remember what your old pal said, boy you've got a friend in me" Horatio has been there for him throughout everything. When telling Horatio about the ghost and his "play", Horatio agreed to watch Claudius as the play progressed.

Hit The Road Jack by Ray Charles

Butterflies and Hurricanes by Muse

" Hit the road jack and don't you come back no more .. " is how Claudius feels about Hamlet since he's learned that he knows who murdered King Hamlet. Claudius is planning on sending Hamlet to England to be killed so that his throne would not be taken from him in Act IV, scene iii. But along the way, Hamlet catches on and changes the note to kill Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

This song would be after the ghost of King Hamlet visits Hamlet because he realized that his uncle killed his father. The rage he felt was incomparable. "Change everything you are and everything you were .. fights, battles have begun," are lyrics of the song and it relates to how Hamlet has evolved from hearing of the news regarding the murder of his father in Act 1, Scene V. Hamlet's thoughtless acts are motivated by the truth of who murdered his father.

Thriller by Michael Jackson

Crazy by Gnarls Barkley

In Act 1 Scene 1, Hamlets' friends see a ghost that share the resemblance of the deceased King Hamlet. Horatio, Marcellus, and Bernardo are the ones who the ghost reveals himself to first. I would allow this song to play as they endure the experience. ( Lines 40-144 ) Thriller projects Horatio's intuition when he states " it harrows me with fear and wonder". As Michael Jackson sings in his song, "Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart" is what ties the song to this scene.

If I Die Young by The Band Perry

The lines, " Does that make me crazy ?" sounds like Ophelia is questioning herself. She believes that she should not be this distraught over Hamlet because she is not supposed to be loving him. He is not worth her tears according to Polonius and Laertes. This is shown in lines 24-74 as she exits. He is

Ophelia died while singing a song in Act IV, scene vii. She didn't try saving herself as she allowed her body to float in the stream. "Sink me in a river at dawn .. send me away with a love song" relates to how Ophelia dies. However, it was speculated that she was murdered.
