Free Repositories

  • If there is an error message after pressing 'print' check to see if the model is coloured blue. If it's red, you'll need to go into the side menu and 'fix' the model.
  • Re-initiating is also helpful.

Tolerances

Food Grade: Sold by Bilby 3D as "CoPolyester (Natural) High Strength Food Grade Filament"

  • The UP! Box has pre-set temperature profiles
  • Make sure you choose the right one for your plastic

Check Build Plate

Many types and composites! Most are based on PLA or ABS.

Extrusion

How does it work?

  • Traditional Method
  • Soft and Hard extrustion
  • Greatest Material Range

Check the build plate is well fastened to the stage. You shouldn't need to calibrate the machine, but if the print isn't sticking to the bed, follow the instructions in the UP! Manual closely.

Print!

  • Layers.

ABS

Press print. The file will take a little while to send and for the extruders to heat. When the machine is ready to print, it will beep several times. You can disconnect the USB cord from the computer.

Different Types

Printing tip - don't open the door!

  • Stronger, durable.
  • Printing temp: 230-250°C
  • Printbed temp: 80-120°C
  • Glass transition temp: 80-120°C

Light Curing

Plugged in, switch on the back of the machine flicked on?

UP! Letters will turn orange

  • DLP: Digital Light Processing
  • SLA: Stereolithiography

PLA

  • Opening the door pauses the print
  • If someone opens the door accidentally, use the hotkeys to resume the print
  • Extrusion
  • Light Curing
  • Powder
  • Biodegradeable materials
  • Printing temp: 190-220°C
  • Printbed temp: 50-70°C (heated bed not mantatory)
  • Glass transition temp: 60-65°C

Finishing

Initialise

Print Removal

  • ABS/Acetone
  • PLA/XTC-3D Brush on Coating
  • Sanding
  • Painting

ABS vs PLA

3D Scanning

Powder Based

Limitations

  • Most Accurate Method, hard to detect layers
  • Metal 3D printing

Initialise either by long pressing the on button (see button shortcut guide on the top lid) or using the software. Beeps will sound from the machine and fans switch on. Letters will turn green.

  • Use scraper and gloves
  • Flex board
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Material Choice
  • Directional weakness
  • Shape limitations

Load Filament

Extruder clogged

Feed the filament through the small tube in the spool holder. Long press the filament button to extrude filament. This will take a few minutes to heat and will beep when filament is ready to be fed into the extruder.

High Quality

Take off the extruder and soak it in acetone. Fit it back on the machine after soaking and push through filament to clean it thoroughly. If this does not work, swap old nozzle for a new one.

Filament Extrudes

Extruder clogged

Filament does not Extrude Properly

Load a 3D Model

Extrusion should be clean and straight. If it contains bubbles, discolouration or is not flowing freely it is likely clogged.

Plug in the USB cable to the computer and open UP! Studio. Load in a new model using the plus button.
