The first benefit is economic. The economy benifits by this policy because there is more participation in the workplace from minority groups. The government ensures equality in workplaces by providing a number of programs to do so.
FONTS
The Royal Commission of Bilingualism and Biculturalism was appointed in 1963. Their job was to examine the state of bilingualism and biculturalism in Canada and to work towards an equal British and French elements within the country. The commission's final report stated that minority groups should get greater recognition and support in preserving their cultural. On October 8th, 1971 Pierre Trudeau officially made it a government policy but it was not a law until 1988.
The adoption of this policy was very important to Canada. Canada became the go-to country as immigrants knew that they could immigrate there and still keep their ethnic identities. This meant that Canada would become a more diverse country with new immigrants coming in. This policy also had many benefits as I have listed before, economy improved, socially Canada improved and politically Canada improved. This policy has changed what Canada is today because it was never like America's "melting pot" but rather a more diverse and multicultural Canada.
Another benefit is political. As it is easier to become a Canadian citizen by this policy, immigrants have more involvement in the electoral process. Also Canada has the most foreign-born members in parliament in the world. This benefits Canada because immigrants are more involved in Canada's political choices.
On October 8th, 1971 Pierre Trudeau announces that multiculturalism is an official government policy. The Royal Commission of Bilingualism and Biculturalism were the root of the adoption of the policy as they were appointed in 1963. The policy was intended to preserve the cultural freedom of all individuals and provide recognition of the cultural contributions of diverse ethnic groups to Canada.
In the Multiculturalism Act, it officially claims Canada a bilingual country. This meaning that the federal government has to do it's business in both official languages, provide services in both official languages, and access to goods in both languages (food labels written in both languages). Multiculturalism policy ensures the equal right of both languages, English and French.
The last benefit is social. A large number of Canada's student population come from minority groups. The government has placed numerous programs to try and welcome these students. These programs help students interact with each other and teach them world religion etc. As this policy allows them to keep their ethnic identity, ore international students are choosing Canada. This being said, they are paying $25,000 in only school expenses which is a benefit.
