The Killers takes place in the small town of Summit. One evening, two men, Al and Max, walk into a lunch counter and try to order dinner. There are 3 people inside: George, the waiter, Sam, the cook, and Nick, one of their customers. These two men, wearing tight overcoats, bowler hats and gloves, calmly tie up Nick and Sam and inform George that they are waiting at the restaurant for a man named Ole Andreson with intentions of murdering him. When he fails to appear and the men leave, Nick visits Ole Andreson to inform him that they are out to get him. Ole Andreson, who has been lying in bed all day, dismissively thanks him for the warning. Nick returns to the diner and announces to George that he is going to leave town, feeling terribly sorry about Ole Andreson's fate.
