Summary

Orca Cafe's Beginning

Week Seven

Week Three

-We started off very poorly. The first few weeks our net income was extremely low.

-Finally in the 7th week, our net income began to rise.

-Our only problem is that since we started off so low, it is very hard to come back from our losses.

-Purchased 40 lbs of coffee, which was too much. 11 pounds of coffee went to waste.

-Bought baked goods from the bakeshop.

-Open on Saturdays and Sundays

-The special of this week was to buy baked goods for the bakeshop ($1.00 per unit).

-Our brand awareness rose from 23.8 to 37.8

  • Furniture: modern theme- $4,000
  • Equipment: AutoFour capacity (4 cup)- $6,000
  • We hired 3 employees and 3 managers.
  • We promoted our cafe with a 50 cent off coupon in the newspaper and two radio spots a day.
  • We purchased 20 pounds of coffee and 10,000 medium cups.
  • Lastly, we bought insurance for $600.

-For the previous week we had to make an emergency purchase of 8 pounds of coffee. For week seven we purchased just the right amount.

-Upgraded to organic coffee.

-The special was a live entertainment and accepted radio show offer (boosted sales and customer satisfaction rates).

Summary

-At week one our net income was $-3,634. The lowest our net income fell was $-6,349. Finally, in the last few weeks we rose to $53,214. It took a lot of decision making to get our net income back up.

What we would do if we were able to do this again.

-We would probably start off by buying the cheaper furniture because we couldn't afford it at the beginning.

-Also, we would have made better choices, such as hiring more managers and servers, promoting our cafe more to attract more buyers.

Week Eight

-Fired a problem employee which resulted in an increase in server happiness.

Week Ten

-We had to make an emergency purchase of 3 pounds of coffee.

-Increased server wages and hired 2 more servers.

-Purchased 88 lbs of coffee, which was just the right amount of coffee.

-The special; provided free wireless access.

-Our net income started to rise at a steady rate.

-We also increased the server wages.

-We finally got our net income above negative in this week.
