Defense Points

-Some high schools have this as a requirement but ALL high schools should have this enforced in their curriculum.

-School requirements consist of 4 years of a subject, 2 years of a foreign language and 1 year of a vocational/technical elective which is the BASIC requirement.

-Adding community service will challenge all high school students to get involved in their communities.

-If for any reason the requirement cannot be fulfilled, peers should work it out with their school counselor, principal, etc.

-Students do just enough to graduate but if service was a part of graduating, this would be a positive aspect to their high school as well.

-It is beneficial to a student’s motive and well being of giving back to society.

-Students need to be more active in and outside of school; more activity beyond the classroom.

-Clubs and organizations like national honor society, key club, student council, etc. make it a requirement but schools don’t. At least not ALL don’t.

Why we chose this Amendment you may ask?

There are vast reasons for why this amendment should be put in the Constitution. It adds as not just doing school work or having a certain number of courses, it’s also an active way for students to participate in their community. Also, it’s a way for students to avoid being in danger of failing. Lack of credits leads to having to take credit recovery classes. Adding this Amendment to the Constitution would be necessary for all U.S. high school students to take advantage of.
