Our character is Aleka. She is Querry's mother, but he doesn't know that until the end.
The rising action of Survival Colony 9 is when Korah brings Querry into a safe bunker, and she locks the door. Then, she ends up being a Skaldi, and almost kills Querry, but failed, because Aleka used a flamethrower and killed the Skaldi inside of Korah.
The falling action is when Querry gets his answers from Laman, who is on his death bed, and about to die, because Yov attacked him, and got him to bleed. The denouement is when Laman is dead, and the rest of the survivors bury the dead, and mourn the losses of all of the dead and their former leader, Laman.
Aleka doesn't talk about her thoughts much, because she is trying to hide the fact that she is Querry's mother. She is hiding it from Querry because she wants to protect him, and make him think that Laman is his father. Page 301
Aleka is a very worried person a lot of the time, because when you are practically alone in the world, that is probably very scary. Even through the apocalypse, she is still a very happy person, and glad to have two sons, Querry and Yov, and very glad to still be alive. Page 299
Aleka is at least 30 years old, and she has a very somber face. She is very thin, and has very pale eyes. She has rt cut blonde hair. Pages 298 & 299
The author is Joshua David Bellin, the title of our book is Survival Colony 9, and the date of publication is 2014. Some general information about the author is that he has been writing books since he was 8 years old.
Aleka doesn't talk that much, because she doesn't want to accidentally tell Querry that she is his mother. She also is trying to get Yov to not tell on her, because Yov knows that Laman isn't Querry's father, and that Aleka is Querry's mother. Aleka tries to not tell Querry, but Yov ends up telling him that Laman is not his father. Page 213
She reacts very well to situations, because she needs to react quick to a dangerous situation to save herself and everyone else. She is also very good at reacting to a bad situation because she was one of the last people alive from her other colony, Survival Colony Twenty-Seven. Page 222
The main conflict of Survival Colony 9 is that everybody that is still alive needs to continue staying alive, because there are the Skaldi, or alien-like creatures, trying to kill them.
The climax is when they start attacking the Skaldi nest, and Querry ended blacking out after killing the Skaldi leader, who was disguised as Yov. This shows that Yov was a Skaldi the whole time, even though he acted like a human.
The inciting incident of Survival Colony 9 is when Querry wakes up to a Skaldi attack, which makes Querry very terrified. The exposition is when Laman tells Querry about what happened to the world and how they stayed alive as long as they have.
The conclusion of Survival Colony 9 is when all of the survivors begin to move somewhere else, with no Skaldi, because they killed them all when they destroyed the Skaldi nest.
One symbol in the book Survival Colony Nine is odd behaviors, which represent a human being infected by a skaldi. (Pg. 3) "The Skaldi always come from the west.
Korah and Querry talk a lot about birds on page 77, because there are no birds alive anymore, and birds are a huge symbol for freedom and different perspectives, which the characters in Survival Colony 9 don't have a lot of.
Here are two potential themes for the novel Survival Colony 9
Our third symbol is screams. Screams are heard throughout the whole book, and they are also what keeps the colony alive, because it allows them to wake up and start up their flamethrowers. Bellin 154," Screams woke me."
Friends are also a very important theme. Our thematic statement for friends are that friends will always have your back. This is demonstrated on page 21, when Korah helped Querry set up a tent. She did this because she cares about Querry, like most friends do, because they will always be friends even through rough times, like what they are going through now.
Our thematic statement for family is that family can help you get through anything. In Survival Colony 9, it is used by Laman helping Querry survive, and Aleka and Querry caring about everyone else. In the novel, everybody helps each other out, because they might not be related, but they still care about each other as if they were one large family. On page 309, Laman tells Querry that he is very proud of him, and that he took care of Querry so that he could survive from the Skaldi.
Parasite (Pg. 237) - An organism that lives on or in another animal, and feeds off that animal.
I chose my word as billowed. Billowed is on page 18, and the definition for billowed is fill with air and swell outward. In the book, the sentence is "Dust billowed around our legs as we walked. The balloon billowed up until it exploded, is my original sentence.
"But I felt nothing. No power, no parasite."
There was a parasite stealing nutrients from the fish.
The setting of Survival Colony Nine is a barren wasteland after a war between the people of the world before. It's a century after the war that sent the world into an apocalypse.
