  • Consists of two people tossing a soft ball back and forth; if one of the participants drops the ball, he or she must sing a love song
  • It is still played today at Hmong New Year celebrations across the globe

Traditional Hmong Games

  • Often called "Hmong spinning top", this game consists of a large top (usually made of a hard wood), string, and a stick.
  • The top is sent spinning by jerking the stick and releasing the top via the attached string
  • When played in teams, participants will often try to hit other players' tops
  • This game has become a competitive sport among older men at events such as the July 4th Soccer Tournament and the Hmong New Year.

  • Often called "Hmong jump rope", this game consists of a single rope made of rubber bands. Two players each hold an end of the rope, as other players jump over. The games gets more difficult as the rope is raised higher and higher.
  • There are several techniques used in jumping over the raised rope, such as jumping with a kick and spin or even cartwheeling
