The antifreeze in your car's radiator depresses the freezing point of the water. It prevents the radiator from freezing up in cold weather. Antifreeze also raises the boiling point. When the boiling point raises, antifreeze prevents the radiator from boiling over during hot weather.

In conclusion, antifreeze basically regulates the temperature. It does many things to prevent something from overheating or freezing. Antifreeze prevents water from eating away at your engine.
