Negative effects of technology

Personality

Scientific research suggests that it is someone's personality based on his relationship to his phone, emotionally unstable individuals are more likely to constantly check their phones in an effort to boost their moods.

Physical

  • Dont get worried if this is you, you're just tryng to escape reality as some people do with books

Phone etiquette

Sleep deprivation

Researchers found that ‘attention impulsiveness’ - defined as a person’s inability to concentrate on the topic at hand - had a significant link with mobile phone addiction.

  • Eyesight may be affected from staring at a screen

Elevated frustration

Blue light

Whats so dangerous about the blue light from our phones is that it throws off our wake patterns. Our bodies absord the light before we sleep and this confuses the brain which associates light with waking up

Doctors recommend dimming the brightness on your phone and getting enough natural light throughout your day could actual eliminate the effect of the blue light on your brain

  • Two groups of people were studied, one read on an iPad an hour another read printed books before they slept for one week
  • The iPad group showed lower levels of melatonin, a hormone linked to sleepiness and felt sleepier the next morning. This is because of the blue light mobile devices emit

CVS-computer vision syndrome

sore eyes, blurry vision

Children who are on the internet, playing games and texting affecting their psyche negatively leading to increased frustration

A study shows that when two people were engaged in a conversation one of them was holding onto or twiddling with their phone

  • Give your eyes a rest every so often by looking away from the screen and sitting a proper distance from the screen

They get instantly frustrated when asked to do anything that requires them to get off their phone

Future Generations

Can you imagine younger kids growing up with this trait

When they are older with a job and are asked to do something out of their way, if they are grew up acting a certain way there is high chances it sticks with them in adulthood

Ex. parents ask them to take out the trash they instantly get frustrated. This behavior ruins many parent-children relationships

Phones in public space

Several restaurants have attempted to ban cell phones during meals

More higher class places believe phones are distracting to the meal and to other customers

Other restaurants benefit from the free advertising of customers taking pictures of their meal

Deteriorated Patience

linked with the frustration

Determination to achieve something comes with patience and without it no one can survive what life offers

Overuse of cell phones and social media in young adults

Ex: people get frustrated when the internet crashes or the page they want wont load

Phones in School

In a CNN article a custodian at a high school shares

"They [students] often walk near the walls so they can move from class to class without looking away from their screens, it gets interesting when they get to the stairways and the walls end for the stairway," he said. "They don't want to look up and they don't way to tumble down the stairs but often just slow way down and inch along until they reach the wall just past the opening. "

The dangers & damages

Everyday use

The fear of missing out is what cause most teenagers to be addicted to their phone. They feel that if they set their phone down for just a minute they'll miss out on a text and a notification

  • 80% of teens said they checked their phones hourly
  • 72% said they felt the need to immediately respond to texts and social networking messages.

F.O.M.O. and social media

There are two sides of the scale when it comes to using our devices socially,

1. We use it to connect ourselves with other people or to make plans

2. Social isolation-avoiding texts asking if you want to hang out or simply watching movies or shows

Fear

Of

Missing

Out

Studies show that talking to people online creates lack of intimacy, compassion and of a real relationship/connection with the person

Ex: Texting "sorry about that" does not have the same affects as saying it in peon

Its dangerous to assume that everyone is having fun because on any social media people only share the highlights

With apps like instagram and twitter you have people worrying that they arent getting enough likes or retweets

Which in turn gives them anxiety that "nobody" likes them which can be distract from homework or sleeping
