Daisy is the second cousin of Nick,

Tom's wife, and Gatsby's love interest.

The romantic relationship between Gatsby

and Daisy is a major part of the plot, and

leads to the climactic ending of the book.

Alcohol played an important role throughout the novel, as statuses of wealth, social instigator, and the reason for Gatsby's great wealth

From Tom's betrayal of Daisy in his affair with Myrtle, to Daisy's betrayal of Gatsby by giving him false hope of her love, this book's plot is driven by betrayal and scandal

Gatsby is a wealthy bootlegger who is in love with Daisy, who is married to Tom. Their forbidden "relationship" drives much of the plot.

Tom is known for having an uncontrollable, often harmful sense of Pride, often when it pertains to his secret relationship with Myrtle.

Many of the main characters

in this book, particularly Daisy, exemplify Falsity by giving the appearance of innocence and class on the outside, but being jealous and scandalous on the inside.

The 1920's was considered one great big party, and there isn't a better example of this than Gatsby's mansion, which hosted a party every Saturday night.

Owl eyes is a curious drunk we first see in Gatsby's library admiring the quality of the hand bound books. Later on in the novel, we see him as one of the only people to attend Gatsby's funeral.

There are many secret relationships, like Tom and Myrtle's and Gatsby and Daisy's, which drive the actions of the characters, and show who they truly are.

Myrtle is the wife of George Wilson, and is secretly on love with Tom and wishes to have a life with him She often dreams of being wealthier than she is.
