Standards

A. Preparing Radio

1) Set: FCTN knob to LD

Set: CHAN to 1-6 (chan in which data is stored)

B. Entering new Net ID in radio

1) Press: FREQ

Display shows: [ F XXX ]

2) CLR

Display shows: [ F _ _ _ ]

3) enter ID numbers

Display shows: [ F XXX ]

4) Press STO

Demonstrate proficiency of operator tasks and basic programing on the RT 1523

Testing your radio

A. Prepare the RT

1) Set the FCTN to LD

2) Press: TIME button on the right side of the RT Keyboard (Julian date will show, Verify it is correct before moving on)

Press: TIME again to move to hh/mm Net time

B. Manually input Net time/ Zulu time

3) Press: MENU/CLR (will show _ _ _ _ )

4) enter Net time with number keys and press STO (will show XX xx )

****time must be stowed with the

zulu/net time at a full minute

example: 21:22:00 hh/mm/ss****

NEXT...

Ensure radio is zeroed by turning function knob to "Z"

KDU (key display unit) will display" COMSEC ZERO/GOOD"

Turn function knob to TST (test) and wait for radio to display "GOOD"

This completes the BIT testing process

Basic Operator Familiarization and Tasks

-Set Volume

1. Press MENU

2. Press number key (1-9) for volume setting (0) for WHSP

-Set RT Channel

1. Press MENU (until CHANNEL)

2. Press number key (1-6) for Channel desired; (0) for MAN, (7) for CUE

-Set RT Power

1. Press MENU (until POWER)

2. Press CHG for desired PWR setting

-Set RT Mode

1. Press MENU (until MODE)

2. Press CHG for desired MODE

-Set COMSEC

1. Press MENU (until COMSEC)

2. Press CHG for desired CMSC setting

-Set Backlight

1. Place RT in SQ ON

2. Press FREQ/Backlight

3. Press CHG until desired setting
