J.C Fields received many important honors. He tried avoiding tea,coffee,alcohol and condiments and he did not smoke. He had a good sense of humor.

His main research topic was on algebraic function he wrote an important book which was published in 1906. The main purpose of the book was to present Riemann-Roch theorem. J.C fields was a professor in mathematics. He taught in the United States and in Canada. J.C fields died on August 9Th ,1932 in Toronto ,Ontario from heart failure. A few days before he died he drew up a will that gave a total of $47.000 to be added to the funds for the medals. The first fields medals were awarded in 1936. No awards were made during world war two then began from 1950. The medals have been awarded every four years. In 1966 it was decided that no fewer then two medals would be awarded at each congress and no more than four.

John Charles Fields also know as J.C Fields was a Canadian research professor mathematician and the founder of the Fields medal for outstanding achievements in mathematics. Some consider the award to be the noble prize in mathematics.

J.C Fields never married. He loved playing sports, the violin and he liked to dance. J.C Fields became friends with another mathematician. His name was Mittag-Leffler. His friendship was important for his future development as a research mathematician.

J.C Fields was born May 14, 1863 in Hamilton ,Ontario. His father J.C Fields senior had a leather shop. He passed away when J.C Fields was eleven years old. His mother passed away when J.C Fields was in the middle of university course. He attended university in Toronto ,the US and in Europe. He excelled in school and received many scholarships awards.
