The climax of Hoot occurs during the Ground Breaking Ceremony at the Mother Paula's construction site. Since building and destroying an endangered animal's habitat is illegal, Roy knew that they had to stick up for the owls. So he told all his friends to join him at the ceremony and protect the owls. By doing this protest, the students revealed the companies greed and dishonesty to the whole town.
Mother Paula's All-American Pancake House are getting ready to build a pancake house at Coconut Cove. The equipment has already been brought to the construction site. But they have been unable to start clearing the land due to many acts of vandalism occurring during the night. Roy learns that the vandal is Mullet Fingers, AKA, The Running Boy. But Roy does not turn him into the police, because he knows that Mullet Fingers is just trying to save the endangered owls. Roy even joins Mullet Fingers and his sister, Beatrice, to try and save the owls.
The students succeed in exposing the pancake company's illegal act's and they shut down the construction. This means that they saved the owls and their habitat.
The next day, Roy watches for the boy and prepares to run after him. Once Roy spotted him, he makes a move and tries to run after the boy, but is strangled by the school bully, Dana. In order to defend himself and catch the running boy, Roy breaks Dana in the nose and eventually catches up with the running boy at the golf course. After gaining Roy's trust, the running boy tells him that his name is Mullet Finger's and that he is trying to save a group of endangered owls at the Mother Paula's construction site.
Roy Eberhardt is the new kid in town, and is all ready getting a beat down by the school bully, Dana, on the first day of school. In the midst of having his face slammed against the window, Roy notices a strange boy running. The boy had no shoes and his feet were black and calloused, but that didn't slow him down. Roy was also surprised to see that the boy didn't have any school supplies either. This made Roy curious but the boy was to fast for Roy to think about following him.
The company fired all employees
responsible for the illegal acts. They also made up for what they did by protecting the owls habitat as an owl sanctuary.
