-Was fought during the early years of the Civil War
Stafford County, Virginia was the location of this battle.
-The victor of this Battle was
inconclusive
The Battle of Aquia Creek was a battle fought in order to regain control of a Confederate Railroad after it was overtaken by Confederates in 1860
- Even though the battle didn't have a clear victor, The Union did regain control of trade of the Chesapeake Bay Ports after this 4 day battle.
-Campaign of this battle was to Blockade the Chesapeake Bay and bombard Confederate batteries that protected the northern terminus of the railroad to Richmond.
-There were 10 total estimated casualties during this battle.
- Union: 3 Gunboats
- Confederate: 2 offshore Batteries
-Aquia Creek was the first time Confederates used Naval Mines.
-The ships returned the second day with another and the four Union ships attacked for about five hours, spending over 500 rounds, resulting in the death of a chicken and a horse but no Confederate soldiers.
Our Thoughts
-I thought this war is something to learn about because it is a 4 day war to get back the confederate rail road. And it was the first time the confederates ever used Naval Mines.
