project due: Sept. 20

(websites used: CDC.gov + Goldenstepsaba)

Obsessive-Compulsion Disorder is a type of mental health condition that has multiple symptoms and signs that someone might see or feel. But there are only two treatments to this disorder. Also OCD in kids make them have unwanted thought, feelings or even ideas. When this happens it takes up about an hour a day interfering with people activites, or make them upset.

Description

DECRISPTION

Many children usually have thoughts that bother them, sometimes they think they need to do something about those thoughts. Even if the actions they do to get rid of those things do not make any sense. For some the thoughts and urges to preform certain actions continue, even if they try and ignore them. These actions or thoughts feel like they happen regualrly and take up a lot of time in the day. The thoughts are called obsessions. the behaviors are called compulsions. Most kids do these things because they think it will prevent bad things from happening or will make them feel better. OCD is known to be too focused on one thing that needs to be done over and over again. This keeps them unorganized. But these compulsions can change over time.

Stats and Statistics

Stats+Statistics

Indicators of positive mental health are present in most children. Parents reported in 2016-2019 that their child mostly or always showed:

-Curiosity (93.9%) among children ages 3-5 years

-Curiosity (93.0%) and self-control (73.8%) among children ages 6-11 years

-Curiosity (86.5 %) and self-control (79.8%) among children ages 12-17 years

-OCD affects approximately 1 in 40 adults and 1 in 100 children in the United States. The average age of onset for OCD is around 19 years old. Around 50% of people with OCD experience symptoms before the age of 18. Women are more likely to be diagnosed with OCD than men.
