Gun safety is safely storing a gun so that it can't be accessible or used to people who will use it in negative ways.
It's not a kid's responsibility to understand guns, it's the adults. So if your child is going to someone's house you should know if there are guns, and if so if they are safe. Many gun accidents occur in homes, because the are left loaded and accessible to anyone. Also lately shootings have been occurring more in schools, due to teens being mentally unstable and again having access to guns. Due to all of this, people should take gun safety more seriuosly.
The cause of gun accidents is due to not enough gun safety. Gun accidents can occur due to curious kids, suicidal people, and family members being mistaked for intruders.
There are a couples reasons why gun accidents happen. The first is curious kids. According to Pewresearch.org “Firearms accounted for nearly 19% of childhood deaths (ages 1-18) in 2021…Nearly 3,600 children died in gun-related incidents that year. That’s about five children lost for every 100,000 children in the United States.” Also gun deaths can happen due to suicidal people. According giffords.org “Suicide attempts are often impulsive acts, and a majority of people who attempt suicide do not go on to die by suicide. But those who reach for a gun during suicidal crises rarely have a second chance." This goes on to prove that we need to have better gun safety because hirrible things like this can happen.
This can have an effect on people and animals! But it has a main impact on people. Accoding tp amnesty.org it says, “Gun-related violence threatens our most fundamental human right, the right to life.” This shows that when it effects one person it effects everyone. Sadly though it mainly effects certaian people, “Anyone can be affected by firearm violence but in certain situations gun violence disproportionately impacts communities of colour, women and other marginalized groups in society.”
Yes! Due to no gun safety someone got a hold of a gun and sadly shot and killed some farm animals. According to Physcologytoday.com it says “Why else would someone shoot at an innocent pet? Oh… but now I remember: We live in a nation where shooting animals is seen as sporting and macho... When Tucker’s human saw him in the barn alone, she knew something was wrong because the sibling donkeys were inseparable. After searching the property, she found Kaitlin’s body...What is even more heartbreaking about this event is the impact on Tucker. He and his sister had never been more than twenty feet apart, for their whole six years of life.”
The best solution to gun violence youd think would probably be a gun ban, but that actually wouldnt do much “Based on the evidence we have, banning these weapons probably won’t do too much to curb overall gun deaths.” Its actially veiwing the gun problem differently. "Any sensible discussion about America’s gun-violence problem must acknowledge that guns aren’t going away..the most effective way to tackle our national problem is to stop thinking of gun control as a political battle and instead see gun violence as a public-health issue”
So instead of taking gun violence to politics we need to start thinking of the people effected and the people effecting.
There have been 5 major gun shootings in just the past 20 years! “The Las Vegas massacre. The killing spree at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. The movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colo. The Virginia Tech slaughter. The massacre at a Walmart in El Paso. These are the five highest-casualty (deaths and injuries combined) mass shootings in modern American history.” Those are just a few of hundreds that have happened.
There are many things that you and I can do to not only spread awarness but maybe slow down or stop gun shootings. One blogger shared a phrase and saying that willspread awarness about gun safety. “Our key message is that gun violence is preventable, and we have actions that every individual can take in their family, community, schools, and with politicians. Don’t back away. Be part of the solution.” “Make the Promise. “I promise to do all I can to protect children from gun violence by encouraging and supporting solutions that create safer, healthier homes, schools and communities.”Then, spread the word and encourage others to make the promise on social media, in email, and any other of your online communities” Most people have social media wether its instgram, snapchat, or facebook. Use that to your potential ans spread awarness about a very seriuos issue.
