JOHNS WIKES BOOTH PERSONAL OFFICE

John's Wike Family

Title

John Wilkes Booth was part of one of the most distinguished acting families in the 19th century United States. His father, Junius Brutus Booth, an English immigrant, achieved popularity in the U.S. second to that of American actor Edwin Forrest. Booth’s brother Edwin was a renowned tragedian, remembered as one of the greatest performers of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. This developed his ego and contributed to his "selfcentrism"

John Booths upbringing with religion

During booths childhood, there were no explicit religious practices in the family environment. His mother was Anglican and his father was described as a free spirit, open to the great teachings of all religions. On January 23, 1853, at the age of 14, Booth was baptized into the St. Louis Protestant Episcopal Church. Although John and his family were traditionally Anglican, several sources emerged after his death to indicate that he had converted to Roman Catholicism.

Throughout the passage, Booth references God and his beliefs in relation to his actions. He suggests that God made him an instrument of punishment for the country's troubles and that he cannot see his wrong, except in serving a degenerate people. He also asks for God's forgiveness and blessing for his mother.

Booth also expressed a sense of nobility in his motivations, saying that he had no desire for personal gain or revenge. He saw his actions as being for the good of the country, and was willing to suffer the consequences of his actions without remorse. In his mind, he had done the right thing and was willing to face whatever came next, even if it meant his own death.

Analyzes 2

Booth's own words, as expressed in the passage, suggest that he saw himself as a man of conviction who was willing to sacrifice everything for his beliefs. He believed that the country was suffering under Lincoln's leadership and that his assassination was a necessary and justified act of punishment. Booth did not view himself as a criminal, but rather as a hero who had acted in the service of his country. He was willing to risk his life and face the condemnation of others to carry out what he believed was a necessary act.
