Metamorphic rocks form when rocks are subjected to high heat, high pressure, hot mineral-rich fluids or, more commonly, some combination of these factors.

Igneous rocks are formed from molten rock that has cooled and solidified. The inside of the Earth is very hot - hot enough to melt rocks. Molten (liquid) rock is called magma . When the magma cools enough, it solidifies and igneous rock forms.

Fossils have been found on every continent in the world. The largest fossil ever discovered is a petrified tree found in Thailand. The tree was more than 237 feet (72 meters) long, and was probably much taller when it was still living! Scientists have found fossils of dinosaurs with feathers.
